IDSA Coffee Morning Celebrates Bulgarian Culture and the Spirit of Unity
The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) gathered in September for a memorable Coffee Morning, hosted at the residence of Simeon. The event highlighted the richness of Bulgarian culture, with members enjoying traditional food, music and a warm atmosphere of friendship.
A highlight of the morning was the official launch of the new IDSA website, marking an important step forward for the organisation. The occasion was honoured by the presence of IDSA Patron, Mrs Winny Lamola, whose attendance underscored the significance of the moment.
Adding to the festivities, members were treated to a live painting demonstration. The artwork, completed during the event, was later awarded in the Lucky Draw to Mrs Roschelle Botes, Honorary Member, who took home a unique piece created by the talented young artist.
True to IDSA’s tradition of service, the day concluded with a visit to a local orphanage. Members spent time with the children and joined in celebrating the month’s birthdays, continuing a cherished practice of bringing joy and support to the community.
The butterfly, IDSA’s emblem, served as a reminder throughout the day of unity, transformation and service; values that continue to guide the association in its mission and activities.

IDSA Coffee Morning Blends Culture, Community and Service
The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) came together for another memorable Coffee Morning, a cherished tradition that continues to strengthen bonds within the community. Members gathered at the beautiful home of honorary member Desirée Gastaldi, whose gracious hospitality set the tone for a warm and welcoming day.
Guests enjoyed a special cannoli-making demonstration and the chance to admire Wendy Bashford’s designs, adding both creativity and cultural flavour to the occasion. The morning was marked by lively conversation, meaningful connection, and a true sense of belonging qualities that define the IDSA spirit.
Later in the day, a smaller group extended this spirit of service to Tshwane Haven Orphanage, where they celebrated the August birthdays of the children with cake, gifts, and song. Though fewer in number, they carried with them the energy and goodwill of the wider IDSA family.
The day was a reminder that IDSA Coffee Mornings are more than social gatherings; they are anchors of community life, spaces where culture, friendship, and service intertwine. As members reflected, “In giving, we receive. In gathering, we grow stronger.”

IDSA Coffee Morning Celebrates Indonesian Culture with Warmth and Joy
The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) gathered for a truly spectacular Coffee Morning, beautifully hosted by Dee and the Indonesian community. Guests were treated to a vibrant showcase of Indonesian culture, complete with delicious food, thoughtful goodie bags, and warm hospitality that made everyone feel at home.
The morning was filled with laughter and energy as members enjoyed lively games, Nana’s Zumba with a twist, and a captivating Indonesian dance performance. Music and traditional ginger tea added to the atmosphere, creating a memorable cultural experience.
Dee’s gracious hosting, together with the Indonesian team’s efforts, ensured that every detail was thoughtfully planned. From delightful treats to engaging entertainment, the morning reflected the spirit of togetherness that defines IDSA.
Members left with hearts full, reminded of the beauty of sharing cultures within the Pretoria community. As one guest remarked, “These Coffee Mornings are exactly what IDSA is all about—friendship, culture, and the butterfly spirit that always endures.”

IDSA Celebrates Indian Culture with Saree Showcase
The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) was hosted by the High Commission of India for a Coffee Morning celebrating the artistry, tradition, and elegance of the Indian saree.
Guests were welcomed on a red carpet gently lined with rose petals, setting the tone for an event that blended culture and ceremony. The highlight was a saree fashion showcase, with each piece reflecting exceptional craftsmanship—intricate embroidery, vivid colours, striking jewellery, and timeless design. The final bridal look, rich in grandeur and detail, concluded the presentation with haute couture impact.
Beyond the textiles, it was the women themselves who brought the sarees to life. With quiet pride and radiant smiles, they embodied the heritage and stories woven into each garment. A live saree draping demonstration offered guests a rare glimpse into the ancient art of adorning the attire, combining tradition with elegance.
Hosted by Tilo, whose care and attention to detail elevated the occasion, the event was described as “a living painting; vibrant, harmonious, and full of life.”
The morning reaffirmed IDSA’s mission to foster cultural exchange, unity, and connection among diplomatic families.

The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) marked the start of its second quarter of a century with a Coffee Morning that drew record-breaking attendance. The event, hosted by Eun-mi, was filled with warmth and elegance, celebrating an important milestone in the Association’s history.
With great care and attention to detail, the gathering offered an atmosphere of connection and celebration. Guests enjoyed an exceptional menu, with Belgian waffles proving to be a favorite among many. Every element of the morning reflected the thoughtfulness and dedication of its organizers.
Adding distinction to the occasion was the presence of Ambassador Paul, who graciously greeted attendees and brought a dignified close to the event. His participation highlighted IDSA’s role as a platform for fostering friendships and cultural exchange within the diplomatic community.

The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) hosted a heartwarming Coffee Morning at the beautiful home of Julie, who welcomed members with warmth and thoughtful care. The morning offered a delightful blend of meaningful conversation, genuine connection, and the spirit of community that IDSA values deeply.
The gathering was made even more special by the presence of Mrs. Bawinile “Winny” Lamola, Patron of IDSA, attending her first Coffee Morning, and His Excellency the British High Commissioner, whose participation added distinction to the event. Members enjoyed the graceful setting, engaging discussions, and the opportunity to strengthen bonds within the association.
Julie’s gracious hospitality ensured a welcoming and memorable occasion, leaving attendees with fond memories and appreciation for the care and effort that made the Coffee Morning truly exceptional.

A Spanish Farewell: Paella and Jewelry at the Spanish Embassy
The International Diplomatic Spouses Association (IDSA) had the pleasure of attending a special gathering at the Residence of the Spanish Embassy. Hosted by Ana, the event offered a unique twist on the traditional diplomatic coffee meeting: a Spanish paella luncheon.
The atmosphere was warm and convivial, allowing members to connect, share stories, and enjoy a leisurely lunch together.
Adding an extra layer of interest, wholesalers from Cape Town presented a private jewelry exhibition before the meal. Guests were given the opportunity to see exquisite pieces up close, learn about their craftsmanship, and hear the history behind each creation..
This gathering was especially poignant as it marked Ana’s farewell from her diplomatic post. Her gracious hosting and attention to detail created a memorable afternoon, leaving members with fond memories of both Spanish cuisine and exquisite jewelry craftsmanship.
The IDSA community continues to celebrate these special moments that blend culture, friendship, and learning, reminding members of the vibrant experiences that diplomatic life offers.
